Color Me Beautiful and...Well...Death

SHOW ME A TAN BLONDE WEARING BLACK AND I'LL SHOW YOU AN OPPORTUNITY

Show me a tan blonde wearing black and I'll show you a person who's not achieving their "seasonal color potential."

If you're like me, you are always up for need a good challenge.

  • Sometimes, it's a superficial problem...like helping colleagues learn their Color Me Beautiful "season" so they divert from wearing black, in favor of a better color for them (funerals aside). I say this as a winter whose best colors include black. ;) (Shout to the 4-H days of my youth, where I learned this system.)

  • Sometimes, it's a solid test...like rolling out the beta of The Bullshift Boot Camp that people were deeply glad they completed.

  • Occasionally, I'm up for a big-a$$ challenge, like watching my mom--and sometimes stepping in myself to--lovingly care for my 96-year-old grandma with late-stage dementia.

Since we just had Halloween, and since end-of-life caregiving is a big part of midlife, I want to touch on this last one a bit.

Here at the School of Midlife, we give more thought to death positivity than most. (I've always had a soft spot for the elderly and have also seen too many families torn apart in the wake of someone passing.) Understandably, many people don’t like thinking about death, except maybe in packaged euphemisms involving sugary confections: “Life is short, order dessert!”

So I invite you to please take a moment to watch this funny video about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Death Positive People because there’s a new, expansive, gratitude-based way to think about death (which may help you as a caregiver)...and to understand how to better celebrate life.

Your time here is temporary, and choosing meaningful relationships and endeavors are the ultimate ways to honor the miracle that is you being alive.

  • What relationships are investing in this week?

  • What endeavor will you experiment with this week?

P.S. Speaking of death and Halloween and color palettes, here's a pic of my go-to costume that I'll never let die. You'll notice I'm achieving my "seasonal color potential" as a winter. :)

If we're connected on Insta, then you already saw it. If we're not connected, then let's fix that right now.
