COACHING FAQs

What is coaching with you like?

I offer a highly specialized and integrated approach that combines elements of health, wellbeing, life, executive, business, and career coaching (along with other change work modalities). I take a whole-person perspective that honors the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual dimensions of your pursuits. You can think of our work together as a collaborative, co-creative partnership that’s rooted in mutual trust and respect.

Who do you work with?

I work with midlife professionals who’ve had a successful career and are ready to discern and develop what’s next, whether it’s related to work, hobbies, relationships, rest, or play:

  1. Corporate leaders exploring non-corporate paths

  2. Aspiring solopreneurs, creators, coaches, and startup founders

  3. High-achieving professionals wanting to reclaim more life away from work

  4. Individuals approaching/in retirement and seeking meaningful contributions

How are you different from other coaches?

I'm a board-certified coach, but I'm also an advisor, teacher, wellbeing expert, corporate escapee, startup veteran, and more. You're getting 45 years of lived experience, 20 years as a wellbeing professional, 8 years as a coach, 6 years as a corporate leader, 5 years as a startup professional, and 5 years as an educator for adult learners. I draw from these varied experiences to benefit our partnership. In addition, I use a range of methods and techniques: Hypnosis, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Energy Psychology, Intuition, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Appreciative Inquiry, Powerful Questioning, Visioning, Mindfulness, Breath Work, Ayurveda, and Design Thinking. I also help you use your three centers of intelligence—the head, heart, and body—to make more aligned decisions and bring your new vision to life.

How long does a coaching engagement last?

My coaching relationships are open-ended and the duration is mutually determined. I ask for an energetic commitment of 3-6 months to start—this affords you the space to realize meaningful change. The average engagement is 9-12 months. I typically only partner with someone when there’s the potential to build a long-term, impactful relationship. That said, part of my success as a coach also means that you no longer need me at some point; no coaching relationship should last forever.

Do you have a program or system?

As your coach, I start with the premise that you’re inherently creative, resourceful, and whole. And that your journey will be unique because you’re a human, not a machine. In response, my coaching is a living, breathing, context-specific container in which you’re safe to maneuver and adapt, instead of forced to adhere to some arbitrary path (i.e., there’s no "one-size-fits-all" solution). I tailor my approach to account for all aspects of your life, providing personalized support and guidance to help you sharpen your vision, clarify your values, distill your strengths, mine your experiences for insights, overcome inner and outer challenges (e.g., self-doubt, fear, etc.), and create an action plan to move forward with clarity and courage…no matter the obstacles in your way.

While your journey is singular, there are commonalities in all transitions: ending/losing/letting go, the neutral zone, and new beginnings. Radical Sabbatical includes curriculum, assessments, exercises, live workshops, frameworks, and other resources to support you during this liminal time. Additionally, the process places emphasis on restoring your health so you feel whole and can make decisions from a more grounded place; developing your purpose and a more expansive identity that’s aligned with it; and creating a meaningful lifestyle that works with the whole of your life. Whole…aligned…meaningful…these are the pillars of fulfillment. My focus is not just to help you make a successful transition to your next calling, but to help you create a fulfilling life.

How do we kick off the relationship?

To begin, I share an intake questionnaire, coaching agreement, and invoice for the first month. We then have an initial 60-minute session to set our intentions for the relationship, dive into the questionnaire to get to know you better, agree on logistics, and address final questions before moving forward. We also meet the following week to build momentum.

How often do we meet?

We have full, 40-minute sessions twice a month. I also make myself available for 15-minute “laser coaching" sessions in between as you face emerging challenges and opportunities. Plus, you can text or email me at your convenience. Remember, this is a partnership—I'm available when you need me, not just when we have time scheduled.

Where do we meet?

Our sessions are conducted via Google Meet or phone, based on your preference. If you live in Minneapolis, we can even meet IRL for sessions, meals, and walks. The same is true when I travel (I love connecting in person).

How much time do I have to invest in coaching?

Like anything in life, you’ll get out of this what you put into it. Coaching includes not only the sessions but also the preparation and follow-up. Plan to spend at least 1-2 hours every week, depending on the scope of your action items.

What days and times do you coach?

I typically coach Tuesday through Thursday from 9am CT to 5pm CT. I also have some flexibility if we need to work around your schedule, move things around, or talk at a moment’s notice.

How do we schedule our sessions?

Most of my coaching partners set a recurring schedule during the first session. You may also book your next session in real-time at the end of a session or at your convenience using my Calendly link.

How do I prep for a session?

I send an email in advance with prompts for you to contemplate and complete. This allows us to hit the ground running and make the most of our time together. Here are the questions I ask:

  1. How would you rate last week from 1-10? Why?

  2. What progress have you made since our last 1:1 session? Any big wins?

  3. What have you learned?

  4. What is your top priority right now? Why is it most important?

  5. What are the 1-3 topics you would like to cover this week?

Can you walk me through a typical session?

A typical session has four phases:

  1. Check how we're showing up energetically, mentally, and emotionally

  2. Review key events, milestones, and/or learnings

  3. Explore what’s most important, desired outcomes, roadblocks, and more

  4. Plan action items, next steps, and accountability

How else do you help between sessions?

I’ll send an email with reflections and follow-ups 24-48 hours after a session. In addition, I provide simple nudges via text, if desired. Between our sessions, you’re able to text or email me at your convenience. I typically respond within a 24-hour window. I also offer on-demand and live experiences, assessments, planning tools, resources, and more that complement your learning and growth. Additionally, I review important documents, sensitive communications, and much more. If you're not sure, just ask. I strive to be an expansion of your inner circle and an active member of your personal board of directors.

How long does it take to get results?

This varies from person to person. A number of partners have experienced benefits during our very first session. You can expect to see results in one or two months. But we should always know what success looks like and whether we’re moving toward it, so I set aside 15 minutes every couple of months to explore what's working, what's not, and/or any changes you'd like to make.

What are your rates?

Coaching is a big investment of time, money, and energy. I charge a monthly retainer (not a “per session” fee) with a sliding scale that uses class-equitable, pay-what-supports-you pricing (I’ll share the specifics when we chat). My intention is that you feel like you’re making a significant investment in yourself, but it’s not so much that it causes stress and resentment. Both of us need to feel excited to work together—this is a fit process, not a sales process. I sincerely want what’s best for you. In turn, when you say “yes” to the partnership, I expect you to fully commit to the process and relationship.
