TSL #001: Turning Your Overfilled Life Into A Fulfilled Life
Read time: 2.5 minutes
If you're like the hundreds of people I had conversations with in 2022, you might be thinking:
"My life's comfortable…I'm good at what I'm doing…but there's no fire there."
“I'm holding hope for my 5-year vision, but I'm holding my breath during current circumstances.”
“Gah! I just don't have any time for myself—some days I can't even go to the bathroom.”
"Everything just feels sort of 'meh.' I don't know what's next for me, but I know this isn't it."
“The more I accomplish at work, the more gets piled on me. I'm over it.”
For real. Hundreds of conversations. There's a lot of overloading and under-living right now.
In response, I'm launching The Sabbatical Lifestyle, a weekly newsletter that includes actionable ways to turn your overfilled life into a fulfilled life.
sabbatical | \ sə-ˈba-ti-kəl \ noun
: any extended period of leave from one's customary work, esp. for rest, to acquire new skills or training, etc: a break or change from a normal routine (as of employment)
You might wonder, “But, Meghan…I'm not a tenured college professor.” As someone who's taken a few sabbaticals in my life, I'm here to say that anyone can take one. Here's why:
"Extended” means many things in our "always on" world (even a week or two would suit those of us in U.S. accustomed to nonstop grind).
People take sabbaticals for many reasons beyond professional growth: personal needs, learning and developing new skills, or rest and recuperation.
We don't always need formal permission from our employer to create our own sabbatical.
More than a sabbatical being a singular time in our lives, though, I'm proposing we think about it as a lifestyle. An ongoing commitment or practice.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Each Sunday, you'll receive The Sabbatical Lifestyle, an actionable email featuring ways to turn your overfilled life into a fulfilled life.
Also, I need to clarify something. There's a lot of noise about how to optimize your productivity. #productivityporn This is not that. You're done proving yourself…your next level of growth isn't in achievement, it's in fulfillment. You want joy…delight…leisure…hobbies (remember those?). I'm here to help you create more spaciousness in your life for…well…whatever the hell you desire.
MY PROMISES TO YOU
For more than 20 years, I've studied…and experimented with…and taught…and coached others in what constitutes “the good life”—from the secrets to longevity and lifestyle medicine to workplace wellbeing and the power of sabbaticals.
While my insights are free, I don't take your attention for granted. It's your most valuable resource. And I'm not here to waste your time with unhelpful content (there's enough of it out there).
So, to ensure your attention is well invested, I promise:
I will only recommend products I've personally vetted and find useful.
I will NOT waste your time with non-actionable platitudes like “just be creative.”
I will publish a newsletter that takes 4 minutes or less to read. Guaranteed.
Sound good to you? It does to me.
Finally, if this isn't resonating with you, then please consider unsubscribing. Remember, I'm here to help you diminish the overloading and under-living…and that includes getting rid of digital clutter!
Alternatively, if you're excited about this newsletter, then the best compliment you could pay me would be to recommend it to a friend or share it with others on LinkedIn.
